The songbird tweeted a picture of herself looking glamorous in a long black gown, after opening the 12-date The Butterfly Returns residence concert.

The Grammy-award winning singer announced last April 20 that she is returning on stage for The Butterfly Returns concert residency.

In a tweet, the pop icon wrote, “I’m thrilled to be returning to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace with a BRAND NEW residency, THE BUTTERFLY RETURNS, beginning July 5th.”

This news delighted long-time fans everywhere. This marks the first time Mariah will perform on stage after a 6-month long hiatus.

The Butterfly Returns is a follow-up to Mariah Carey’s widely successful previous residency, Mariah #1 to Infinity. Her first residency ran for two years at The Colosseum, which began on May 6, 2015, until July 18, 2017. The 50-concert show accumulated over $23 million in revenue with an 88% attendance percentage. If those numbers are any indication, this residency will surely be another sell-out.

Mariah’s new show will spotlight a more intimate and relaxed performance on The Colosseum stage with a more expansive production. She will be performing her most iconic hits. In 4 acts, fans will be able to watch the pop icon perform some of her most popular songs including Fly Away Butterfly (1997), Emotions (1991), and We Belong Together (2005).

Struggle With Bipolar Disorder

Mariah’s announcement two months ago came on the heels of her candidly sharing her struggles with bipolar disorder. In an honest and telling interview with People, she said,

“Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love — writing songs and making music.”

She is currently undergoing therapy and treatment for bipolar II disorder, which is known to cause bouts of depression and hypomania. The Songstress iterates that she is now healthy and trying to move forward.

“I’m just in a really good place right now, where I’m comfortable discussing my struggles with bipolar II disorder. I’m hopeful we can get to a place where the stigma is lifted from people going through anything alone. It can be incredibly isolating. It does not have to define you and I refuse to allow it to define me or control me.”

New Music and International Fall Tour

Mariah Carey will also be headlining her tenth tour this fall, The #1’s Tour. She will be performing throughout Australian, New Zealand, Europe and Asia. The tour was originally scheduled for earlier in February this year. The reschedule is because of some necessary realignment of her international engagements, which didn’t include European dates initially.

The tour will kick off on October 7 at the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. It will make its way to 20 other locations around the globe. The #1’s Tour will finally wrap up in Brussels, Belgium on December 14, 2018.

The pop diva has additionally been teasing new music through social media. She is promising a new album before the year ends.
