Finally, our football winter is over. And although the NFL’s 2018 regular season won’t kick off for another month, week 1 of the preseason just started. If you’re thirsty for some American football, we’ve got the best deets on the games that really matter… sort of.
The games are back again, kind of. It’s the beginning of the NFL preseason. 30 teams are digging their heels on the football field, ready to make their debuts in the games that are set to measure their worth. This is that time of the year when players must bring on their A-game if they want to prove their 53-man roster power. It’s where football dreams are made or crashed. High-profile rookies will either get to shine or fall under pressure. Veterans will fight tooth and nail to show their staying power. There’s drama, high tempers, fatal mistakes, and all the sports-glory moments in between – and you need to watch every minute of it. Read ahead to know everything about the NFL 2018 preseason’s first week.
Atlanta Falcons vs New York Jets – Friday, August 10
NFL fans are in for a real treat with one of the most exciting matches during the preseason. Steven Sarkisian is at the Falcons’ helm for his second year. And what he has is a drool-inducing set of tools at his offensive disposal. Let’s take rookie wide receiver Calvin Ridley, for instance. Ridley was impressive during camp and has untapped potential. If Sarkisian plays his cards right, Ridley, alongside Julio Jones, can be the best wide receiver-duo the Falcons has ever seen. The Jets are also giving us someheavy anticipation. What with former USC quarterback Sam Darnold‘s debut and his goal of beating Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater for a first directive. Perhaps we shouldn’t expect much, but who knows, right? We all love a good underdog story.

Detroit Lions vs Oakland Raiders – Friday, August 10
It will be interesting to see what Matt Patricia, the Lions new coach, has up his sleeve, especially on Detroit’s defensive play. But perhaps the excitement should be credited to the team’s three-way running back standoff. With rookie Kerryon Johnson‘s feet and hands, LeGarrette Blount‘s thickness and durability, and Ameer Abdullah‘s and Theo Riddick‘s shiftiness in the backfield, we have new things to expect from the Lions. Oakland, meanwhile, features a comeback coach in the form of Jon Gruden. Talks of a Super Bowl title are surrounding this latest development. We probably won’t get a solid feet landing from the Raiders yet, but some signs will be telling.
Hey, @Lions, you ready to do this?

Denver Broncos vs Minnesota Vikings – Saturday, August 11
Two teams will be rounding out the first week of the 2018 NFL preseason. And ironically enough, each team will be featuring quarterbacks who both hold marks on the Minnesota Vikings‘ history. We’re talking about Kirk Cousins and Case Keenum, of course. If you were paying any attention at all during free agency, you’d know that Cousins was bought by Minnesota for a whopping $84 million historic deal. Broncos’ star Keenum, on the other hand, is the very same guy who helped lead the Vikings towards their “Minneapolis Miracle” only a year ago. It will be interesting to see the two quarterbacks butt heads.

Los Angeles Chargers vs Arizona Cardinals – Saturday, August 11
Unfortunately, we won’t be talking about any Antonio Gates comeback this preseason. But we still have something to look forward to in players like Virgil Green, Braedon Bowman, Sean Culkin, and Cole Hunt. It’s not the player roster we were anticipating for, but there will be some good snaps and defense to anticipate at the Chargers side. The Arizona Cardinals, meanwhile, seems to have a solid play planned. With Sam Bradford starting and Josh Rosen keeping Steve Wilks from second guessing himself, it’s going to be a strategic game.
