The Freshen Up world tour comes in the heels of a much-anticipated album, Egypt Station. The album first released three singles before officially hitting the shelves;  “I Don’t Know,” “Come On To Me,” and in true Paul McCartney fashion, the cheeky Ryan-Tedder-produced “Fuh You.”

Egypt Station is produced by Greg Kurstin and is released by Capitol Records. This is Macca’s first album release since his 2013 album, New. The album is inspired by a group of similarly named paintings of Paul’s back in 1988. Egypt Station’s cover art is also inspired from the said paintings.

In an interview, Paul expresses the inspiration of the album, “I liked the words ‘Egypt Station.’ It reminded me of the ‘album’ albums we used to make… ‘Egypt Station’ starts off at the station on the first song and then each song is like a different station. So it gave us some idea to base all the songs around that. I think of it as a dream location that the music emanates from.”

Egypt Station’s Resounding Critical Success

The Guardian’s Kitty Empire says of Paul’s newest album, “By turns playful, honest and questing, Paul McCartney hitches empathy to experimentation on his urgent new album.” Egypt Station is being well received by critics and fans alike. This is something truly impressive. As if Paul needs to prove himself more. The music legend is 17 albums out from his The Beatles stint and continues to prove his music is not only iconic, but timeless as well.

Egypt Station has a Metacritic score of 76 out of 100. It has mostly positive reviews from critics, with The Telegraph UK saying, “It is the sound of an old rocker at full steam ahead, determined to keep on rolling for as long as he can.”

It is undeniable that Paul McCartney, even after the death of an era, manages to stay as one of the most formidable artists in the industry.
