With sold-out stadiums and the hippest special guests, you should seriously go and watch it!
Taylor Swift is having the biggest year of her career yet. That comes as no surprise. And it seems nothing is stopping the pop superstar from taking on the music scene. Between getting stuck in mid-air and having to perform through a 2-hour rainshower, the blonde beauty’s Midas touch is unstoppable. As if the initial and continued success of her sixth studio album, Reputation isn’t enough, her headlining tour just got hailed as the top grossing tour of the year according to Pollstar. Yes, it’s doing better than Queen Bey’s and Jay-Z’s concert tour! Let’s find out more about Taylor’s ultra-successful new album and concert tour.
Reputation Album Success
After three years, Taylor Swift delighted fans everywhere when she finally released her highly-anticipated sixth studio album, Reputation last year. It was released last November 10 through Big Machine Records with songs featuring Ed Sheeran and Chance The Rapper.
Fans worldwide clearly missed the country-turned-pop artist. In just a month and a half since its release, Reputation sold just under 2 million copies. Moreover, the bulk of those copies were sold in the first week. In just the first seven days, 1.2 million of those copies were sold. This made Taylor the only artist in history to have four albums that sold over one million copies in their first week out. Reputation became the bestselling album of the year in the United States and the second bestselling in the world, selling 4.5 million copies globally.
Reputation’s lead single, “Look What You Made Me Do” topped the Hot 100 list in its first full tracking week and stayed there for three weeks. The single, “Delicate” was more of a slow burn. After weeks of staying on the edges of Top 40, it finally landed snugly on the number one spot on the Adult Pop Songs list. “Delicate” became Taylor’s first single to top the chart since “Wildest Dreams” three years earlier.
Reputation was met with critical success, with an average score of 71 on Metacritic and generally favorable reviews from music critics. The dollar signs are not lying. The full pop album is, by all means, a commercial blockbuster hit. Yet we can’t ignore the fact that it’s really not as successful as Taylor Swift’s other previous albums. However, the tour has been filling stadiums and is enjoying some tour-fueled boost. It’s not a closed book for Reputation just yet.
Hiccups, Special Guests, and Everything In Between
The Reputation Tour is no doubt a colossal success. But the 50-city stop show is not immune to the occasional hiccup and minor technical problems. First, there was Charli XCX’s major wardrobe malfunction during one of the first few songs during one concert.
had a janet moment tonight and flashed an accidental boob on stage in detroit. my bad :-/

Charli is opening the tour alongside ex-Fifth Harmony member Camilla Cabello.
Last month, one of Taylor Swift’s backup dancers was involved in a car crash. Taylor wrote on Instagram, “While she takes time to recover and heal, we’re all wishing her a speedy recovery and are looking forward to her return to the tour. We all love you Nadine and can’t wait to have you back.”
And let’s not forget when Taylor Swift got stuck in midair during one of her concerts while singing her hit single, “Delicate.” She handled it very professionally, though, and continued on with the concert. Moreover, Taylor showed yet again that she is the epitome of professionalism when she braved the two-hour downpour during her concert at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. Fans online are praising the 28-year old for being a trooper as she went ahead with her 19-song playlist. But can we just say, with Taylor’s fondness for lyrics like, “Can’t help it if I wanna kiss you in the rain.” — “Hey Stephen,” we are not surprised.
Taylor Swift is also known to invite the coolest and hippest people to join her concerts as special guests. During her first concert, she invited no one less but the Shawn Mendes (to the delight of female fans.) On her second show at Rose Bowl, Pasadena, it was her BFF, Selena Gomez’ turn to join her. Other people who joined her shows were Aussie pop star Troy Sivan, ex-One Direction member Niall Horan, and Take That Star Robbie Williams.
Top Grossing Album Of The Year
Is this news surprising? Most probably not. The pop superstar is known for her commercially successful concert tours and everyone predicted that the Reputation Tour is going to be the biggest tour of the year. These predictions came just after news that the tour had already grossed $180 million after its four days of being on sale late last year. And it seems everyone was right. Since the tour kicked off last May 18, its first seven shows grossed at a whopping $54 million and 390,000 tickets sold. Her tour earns a staggering average of $10.3 million per city.
The Reputation Tour is arguably enjoying more success than Taylor’s Reputation album, it seems. The concert tour is receiving rave reviews, with fans claiming it to be the best of Taylor’s career so far. It’s not only a hit with the fans, but also to critics as well. Rob Sheffield of the Rolling Stone claims that the Reputation Tour is her finest yet. ” Everybody in the stadium was wired to her voice and guitar.”
