What better way to open up the NFL’s 100th season than with the league’s oldest rivalry? On September 5th, the Chicago Bears will play host to the Green Bay Packers in the Thursday night opener. This will be the first regular-season game of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers under a new coaching regime by Matt LaFleur. As with the Bears, the team has won just three of the past 18 games against the Packers, but let’s not forget that they are still the defending NFC North champions. The Bears, coming off a very strong 2018, will look to start its defense of the conference title off on the right foot.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are opening their NFL season in New England against Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. Perhaps an ominous way to begin for the Steelers since they have never beaten the Patriots in New England (0-5), this game is still one of the prime-time events of the 2019 schedule. The Patriots will be playing sans tight end Rob Gronkowski, who announced his retirement in March. The Steelers, on the other hand, will be out in the field without tailback Le’Veon Bell and wide receiver Antonio Brown.

How about an NFC Championship rematch so early in the season? Los Angeles Rams vs the New Orleans Saints, one of the most consequential and controversial games from the postseason, is getting a redux in the second week of the season. The last time we’ve seen these two teams joined the field, the Rams were sent to the Super Bowl and a massive amount of Saints bettors were ruined due to a missed pass interference call. So this season, we can only expect Saints to be out for revenge against Jared  Goff and the rest of the Rams team.

The two of the most recent Super Bowl champs gather for a rematch on Week 11. This face off by the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles will probably be Carson Wentz’s first ever game against Tom Brady. Michael Bennet will play with his former team, the Patriots, while the Eagles brought back DeSean Jackson in free agency. Also, this game falls after both teams’ bye weeks so kudos to the schedule makers.

The last two NFL MVPs square off in a rematch of the AFC Championship Games on Week 14, and this one, as with all the other Tom Brady vs. Patrick Mahomes games, should be considered appointment viewing. The last time these two were seen together, Brady was congratulating Mahomes before heading off to his sixth Super Bowl win in Atlanta. Throughout the years, the Kansas City Chiefs has been considered one of the few teams that are capable of pushing the New England Patriots, having won two of the five meetings since 2014. So yes, football enthusiasts, we can definitely expect yet another dazzling game from these two teams.

If you’re in for some bad-blood showdown this season, then this game is for you. During his contract stare-down with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year, Le’Veon Bell secured his right to leave the team via free agency. Now part of the New York Jets, this is the first time Bell will be facing his ex team. And, making this game even more compelling is the fact that some of his now-former teammates were critical of him and both sides are likely eager to prove they’re better off after the split.
