Mean Girls, the record-breaking musical comedy is hitting the road starting this September! Isn’t that so fetch? The production just announced the actresses who will launch the First National Tour as “The Plastics”. Here’s what we know so far about this most awaited tour.
Turning a hit movie into a Broadway musical can be a bit tricky. But accomplishing that and then turning it into a national tour? Tina Fey’s Mean Girls proves it can with its most-awaited Mean Girls National Tour.
Based on the 2004 American teen comedy film starring Lindsay Lohan, Mean Girls opened on Broadway in April 2018 to rave reviews at the August Wilson Theatre. To date, the musical continues to play to packed houses.

The Plastics + Other Casts and Creatives
Mean Girls Tour has assembled its prime clique. Newcomer singer song-writer Mariah Rose Faith will lead the ‘Plastics’ as Regina George. Mean Girls original Broadway ensemble member Jonalyn Saxer will take on Karen Smith and Wicked national tour alum Megan Masako Haley will step into the role of Gretchen Wieners.
The trio joins the previously announced Mary Kate Morrissey, who will play Janis Sarkisian. Other casts, including the one who will be portraying the main character Cady Heron, will be announced at a later time.
Mean Girls features a book by nine-time Emmy Award winner Tina Fey, based on her screenplay for the film. Music will be by three-time Emmy Award winner Jeff Richmond and lyrics by two-time Tony Award nominee Nell Benjamin. Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs.
The creative team includes Scott Pask for set design, Kenneth Posner for lighting design, and Finn Ross & Adam Young for video design. The costume, hair, and make-up will be handled by Gregg Barnes, Josh Marquette and Milagros Medina-Cerdeira. Other team members include Mary-Mitchell Campbell as the music director, Howard Joines as music coordinator, Glen Kelly for Dance and Incidental Music Arrangements and more.
