Julia Roberts Honors Gary Marshall At Opening Night

In a suprise attendance, Julia Roberts graced the red carpet during the opening night of Pretty Woman: The Musical. The film’s original Vivian Ward was there to attend the special memorial performance for the film’s late director, Gary Marshall. Furthermore, as a nod to Marshall’s work, the actress donned on an orange T-shirt with Laverne and Shirley on it. Roberts and Marshall has a strong working history. After working together for Pretty Woman, the two also teamed up on equally successful projects such as Runaway Bride, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Julia has only great things to say about the famous director. “Enough could not be said of my relationship with Garry Marshall and what that’s done for me as a person, just having the confidence to be funny, and goofy, and find that side of creativity,” she said. “I’ve never thought twice when Garry asked me to do something.”

Garry Marshall was hard at work trying to bring his 1990 hit film to Broadway up until his untimely death last 2016. Julia Roberts walked the red carpet event before the opening night with Marshall’s family. Barbara Marshall and daughter Kathleen, and son Scott were there to honor their father as well.

During the curtain call, Roberts joined the standing ovation, clapping enthustiastically for the cast and crewa, especially the lead start Samantha Barks.
