Bored of the typical Valentine’s date night and want to kick it up a notch this time around? Read ahead for five must-see shows you shouldn’t dare miss to make your Love Month more special and romantic this 2019.

The so-called Season of Hearts is now upon us, so it is time to make plans to take your loved one/s for a romantic evening of food, music and entertainment. Luckily for you, we’ve got the music and entertainment parts covered. The celebrated V-day falls on a Thursday this year, so we’ve rounded up the best Broadway musicals and shows that run for the whole month of February.

So whether you’re in for some light-hearted musical comedy or feeling a full-blown orchestra kind-of-night, here’s a list you may want to check out to get some ideas.

On Your Feet!

Fall in love with the inspiring true story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan with the musical On Your Feet! Directed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, this highly-acclaimed show is about the tale of two Cuban immigrants who believed in their talent and each other to become global superstars. Plus, you might want to get your dancing shoes ready because the musical features some of the most iconic songs of the past century. These include “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “Conga,” “Get On Your Feet,” “Don’t Want To Lose You Now,” “1-2-3” and much, much more.

2Cellos

An international sensation since 2011, Croatian cellist Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, have since created a name for themselves with their electric and dynamic playing style. In support of their newest album Let There Be Cello, the duo embarked on a tour captivating the hearts of their audiences with latest pop hits like Luis Fonsi’s Despacito to rock songs like the Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger. Of course, they also throw in some never before heard original compositions like Concept2 and Cadenza. So whether you’re into classical and film music or pop and rock, this concert will surely take your listening experience to the next level.

Colorado Symphony Orchestra: A Classical Romance

On Valentine’s weekend, get ready to be swept away by mesmerizing music of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Unlike the usual shows, Brett Mitchell ‘s A Classical Romance offers a uniquely American look at the themes of love across multiple decades. You can expect some exquisite music by Bernard Herrmann and an excellent mezzo-soprano performance from Kelley O’Connor. On the second half of the show, guests will be treated to a wonderful selection of five short pieces and modern day retelling of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Pretty Woman: The Musical

One of the most celebrated romances of all time is now on Broadway. Just like the hit movie, Pretty Woman: The Musical is about unlikely soulmates Vivian and Edward who overcame all odds to find each other… and themselves. With the direction and choreography of Jerry Mitchell and an original score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallace, along with superb acting and chemistry of actors Samantha Barks and Andy Karl, this musical promises to lift your spirits and melt even the coldest hearts!

The Phantom of the Opera

With 30 years of being on Broadway, The Phantom of the Opera promises to make each date night a memorable one for its guests. Whether it’s you and your date’s first or fifth time, your hearts will surely be captured by the timeless story of the masked man and his obsessive love of the soprano opera singer, Christine. The Andrew Lloyd Webber blockbuster has won over 70 major theatre awards, including seven Tony’s on Broadway and four Olivier Awards in the West End. So this month, if you see only one show, make sure it’s this one!

Waitress

Nothing says romance like a good time and sweets. Fortunately, the irresistible musical hit Waitress got you covered on both. Based on Adrienne Shelly’s film of the same name, Waitress is brought to life by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson. Jenna, played by Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller, is a waitress and an expert pie maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. A baking contest and the town’s new doctor may be her way out, but she needs to find the strength within herself for a fresh start. Be it with your boo or with friends, watching this uplifting and hilarious show is definitely a little slice of heaven.
